If your boiler has been installed with the plastic condensate pipe on an outside wall, the liquid inside the condensate pipe could freeze if the temperature drops below zero. If this happens, the boiler will shut down to protect itself and you will see the error code E133 on its display panel. The display will alternate between E1 and 33.
These easy steps will help you get your boiler working again without needing to call an engineer:
  • If the boiler is displaying error code E133, check to see if the condensate pipe is located outside, as it may be frozen. It is a plastic pipe that leads into the drain.
  • To unfreeze the pipe, pour hot, but not boiling, water across the length of the plastic pipe until it has defrosted. This could take around 30 minutes, but the boiler will not light until the pipe has cleared
  • Once the pipe has thawed out, you will need to reset the boiler, and it should then fire up and run as normal.
We have created step by step videos to help you to thaw frozen pipes and to find out what you can do to prevent them from freezing in the future. Please watch the whole video before attempting to thaw your frozen condensate pipe.
If you don't feel comfortable thawing the pipe yourself, or if the error code is still displaying, call your own Gas Safe registered engineer or Baxi Customer Support on 0344 871 1545 and we can send one of our engineers out; there may be a charge for this.
